These are two more encaustic paintings that I've finished in the past month. I've been working with different methods of pigment dipsersal, and this was another experiement. I've worked with oil paints smeared on the surface of the wax/wood, mixed my own colors with melted beeswax and raw pigment, and purchased some pre-made encaustic colors. I really enjoy the range that all three of these avenues give me, though the pre-made paint cost is very prohibitive from making me want to buy every color they may have.

Both of these paintings were completely different paintings before I was done....that's one of the things I love about encaustics...the ease in which you can take one thing, and make it something completely different. It is a very free-ing medium.
However, I still like my more rigid art as well...I've got a new woodblock design to work on while I'm visiting the family for the holidays...and another two landscape paintings I'm working on that are almost done. I'll share when they are.

I've enjoyed watching you play with this. I can imagine they must really glow from within in 'real life'...
Thanks Diane! It's been so much fun doing it. The only problem is now I have to get in gear on finishing a woodblock print for the solstice exchange I'm in...I completely forgot about it. eek!
