A date with the studio

What with the fun of teaching classes and my "day job", going to baby classes, and attempting (but failing) to keep a clean house, I had severely neglected art making for myself. Well, I remedied that on Monday afternoon, spending hours down in the "craft cave", melting wax and slinging color around with abandon. Here is one of the pieces I finished that day. It is a small little beauty measuring just 5" 5.5". I've been playing around with different techniques of "drawing" on the wax, and I really was pleased with how this one came out...from the smudginess of the image to the green and orange playing with each other (mmm....green.) I plan on making a small series of these botanical study pieces for the SE Artwalk in March. So, you can see them in person and all their waxy glory!

I'm wrapping up my Spring Wax classes since I will be taking several months off for the birth of my baby. I've gotten a wonderful response and have been having the time of my life sharing my love of art (and wax!) with others. It's bittersweet that Feb. 20th will be my last class until late May. Hopefully, the baby will allow me a FEW hours of play time for myself during this time so I'm not completely without art making. I can't wait till she's old enough to join me in my art play!

Ooh, fabulous! Are the fern-type leaves drawn on? They are so pretty! Love it!

Awesome, Love the layering effects of working with encaustics! Did you carve out the circles and then paint in the orange? That's what it looks like but it's hard to tell with such a small photo.

I love all your work! I wish I would have visited your bog sooner to see about your classes. And babies sleep a lot but you will probably be sleeping too. I remember my daughter had two evening bedtimes so I could get stuff done before the second one!
