Missing my baby

My sweet little thing is out on an adventure with her daddy, my other sweet thing. They are going to the coast to visit family while I enjoy all things artsy with Portland Open Studios. I finally have a morning to take a leisurely shower, walk down the street for really good coffee, enjoy some alone time in my studio before the art walk....so why am I so bummed out over missing my little babe today? Ah, the bane of all mothers - wishing for some time alone and then wishing for our babies when we have it.

By the way, this is Hazel enjoying the spoils of sweet potato for the very first time. She has since moved up to carrots and pear...but she does enjoy the tater!

Another Fine Weekend of Art

This is the second (and final) weekend for Portland Open Studios. Last weekend's opening was a great experience and I really enjoyed meeting fellow art fans, as well as showing many the wonders of encaustic painting through the free live demos I was giving. This piece above (as well as the one below) were two of the mini's I made over the weekend...wee 2" x 2" pieces of art to enjoy in little nooks of your house - or studio, office, whatever!
I spent this weekend trying to take care of a bunch of "regular life" duties as well as gearing up for this weekend. Please stop by and say hi if you can! Hours are 10am-5pm both days.

My studio is located at 7411 N Huron Ave. Portland, OR 97203

Portland Open Studios

Life at the studio has been all about wax and wood in anticipation for this weekend's (and next weekend too!) 2008 Portland Open Studios event! I've been painting and hanging and lighting and cleaning and prepping to show Portlandia what's new in the world of Amy Stoner Fine Art! I wanted to share with everyone a sneak peek of what they'll find within my studio. Let's start!

This shot is the main "gallery wall" of my studio, where I usually have something displayed for students at one of my classes. I have six new pieces on the wall and you can see part of my largest piece ever made on the right hand side.
I am lovingly calling this the "wall of wax". I have over SIXTY (yes, sixty) pieces of original encaustic art on wood for everyone to enjoy. Can you say I'm a tad obsessed with making art? These pieces have been the result of months of hard work, days and late nights layering wax while my baby sleeps or enjoys some special time with family.
That's a lot of wax! Here's another angle. I am a huge fan of color in my work and so I grouped all my pieces according to color progression. The fiery reds and deep maroons are closest to the camera!
This is the last piece I made before Portland Open Studios, and I'm really enjoying it. It was one of those paintings that was supposed to be one thing, and came out completely different. But I'm just fine with that.

Finally, here is the big one....48" of waxy wonder. Much of my new work focuses on life transitions and growth...and how one puts all the many facets of life together into a cohesive whole. This piece is like a patchwork of life and the many shades and textures of it...all while giving bloom to something new and wonderful!

Please do plan on stopping by and enoying all of these pieces in person if you get the chance! I am open 10am-5pm this weekend (Oct. 11-12) and next weekend (Oct. 18-19). My studio is located at 7411 N Huron Ave. Portland, OR, 97203. Hope to see you there!
